The inspiring story of The Sewing Rooms

Please follow this link for the inspiring story of Skelmersdale’s ‘The Sewing Rooms’ social enterprise:

Paula Gamester and Maureen Fazal describe the mission of The Sewing Rooms as being to ‘Repair the fabric of society’.  They tendered for their first contract without even having a sewing machine, but today their business has impressive social, environmental and economic impact in the local community.

The Sewing Rooms does therapeutic creative work with groups and individuals who may be isolated, long-term unemployed and at risk of developing mental health problems, and funds this by manufacturing soft furnishings, accessories and upholstery for private and corporate clients – including IKEA.

The success of this amazing business and the entrepreneurial skills of these two determined local women are a credit to Skelmersdale!
